Report: Spurs still keen on defender who suffered serious injury earlier in the season

Tottenham Hotspur have been left short of options at right-back this season with Serge Aurier emerging as Jose Mourinho’s first choice following the depature of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Academy graduate Kyle Walker-Peters started the first three matches of the current Premier League campaign while Mauricio Pochettino was in charge but did not feature again after suffering a hamstring injury in the home defeat to Newcastle and was sent out on loan to Southampton in the January transfer window.

Pochettino did experiment with Juan Foyth moving from his usual position of centre half to operate at right-back which is something that Mourinho has not continued with the Argentine struggling for game time (transfermarkt).

Ahead of next season, Nice’s Youcef Atal has emerged as a potential arrival in North London with French outlet Le Foot claiming that both Spurs and Paris-Saint Germain are still keen on his services.

The 23-year-old has been linked with Tottenham in the past when reports from Algeria claimed that he was on their radar (DZ Football).

Atal suffered a serious injury during his club’s 4-1 home win over visiting Metz in the French Ligue 1 in December and required surgery (The Sun) to repair a meniscal lesion in the right knee.
