Report: Spurs summer transfer target explains why he moved elsewhere

Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a productive summer transfer window with a number of incomings and departures.

Jack Clarke became Tottenham’s first new arrival in 517 days and was followed through the door at Hotspur Way by Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon.

There were also departures with the likes of Vincent Janssen, Josh Onomah, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, Kieran Trippier, Fernando Llorente, Marcus Edwards and Michel Vorm all ending their time in North London.

Once player who was heavily linked with a potential switch to Tottenham and Manchester United was Youri Tielemans, the midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester City from Monaco (Sky Sports).

A move failed to materialise and the Belgian international instead put pen to paper on a permanent deal with the Foxes.

Tielemans has revealed that he was the subject of interest from some big clubs but wanted to continue playing his football for Brendan Rodger’s side instead.

Tielemans told The Mirror: ”During the transfer window, I was happy of the interest of certain big clubs.

“I needed to make a choice for my young career and I think it was the right one. To arrive off the back of a €45m transfer doesn’t change anything.

“They already knew me at Leicester. My loan spell went very good. I wanted to continue playing in this club.”
