Report: Spurs to put star through late fitness test ahead of Newcastle match

Tottenham Hotspur will hand a late fitness test to Dele Alli ahead of Sunday’s match against Newcastle United, according to the Evening Standard.

The midfielder has missed the club’s opening two Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa and Manchester City after suffering a hamstring issue in pre-season.

Dele has suffered from hamstring issues in the past which saw him pick up four similar injuries in the past two seasons.

With the attacking options that Spurs have available in the final third, it is unlikely that the England international will be risked unless fully fit, where he would at best be looking at a place on the bench given his lack of match fitness over the past few weeks.

Mauricio Pochettino has Harry Kane, Giovani Lo Celso, Lucas Moura, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Heung-min Son to choose from for the visit of the Magpies to the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Opinion

Given the players Pochettino has at his disposal, it seems unlikely that Dele would be risked given the nature of how a hamstring injury can set a player back if not fully ready to return.
