Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Matthijs de Ligt has spoken about the ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
The Ajax central defender was the subject of intense press speculation over the course of the summer when rumours were rife that Toby Alderweireld was set to join Manchester United.
de Ligt has featured prominently for Ajax since last season and already has a handful of caps for The Netherlands under his belt, so is clearly destined for a very bright future in the game.
Tottenham aren’t alone in keeping tabs on the 19-year-old, Manchester United and Barcelona are also said to be monitoring his progress.
He has played down the speculation of a possible Ajax exit by claiming that he is instead focused on the job in hand at his current club.
He said in an interview to FourFourTwo: “It’s nothing special, to be honest. There are so many tabloids writing things. I haven’t heard anything, so I focus on Ajax. It’s nice to see your name linked with those kinds of clubs, but if I didn’t hear anything, it doesn’t matter.”
