Released Spur moves to QPR

White Hart Lane - Tottenham Hotspur News

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Nelsen has joined QPR on a free transfer.

The New Zealand international moved to White Hart Lane from Blackburn on a free in January but was released by Harry Redknapp at the end of the campaign.

It was expected that Nelsen would be released, but with doubts over the future of Ledley King it means that we have lost two central defenders. Ajax skipper Jan Vertonghen has been linked with a move and it remains to be seen if Redknapp’s departure will jeopardise his signing – the Daily Mail claims not.

Nelsen liks back up with his former Blackburn boss Mark Hughes.

“I owe him pretty much everything. He gave me my chance (at Blackburn in 2005),” Nelsen told Fairfax.

“That was a big factor. I know Mark and his staff really well, and they all really helped me when I was first over here in England, so it’s nice to go full circle towards the end of my career. Hopefully, I can still help them out.”
