“Shone like a diamond in the rough” – Pundit praises Spurs star’s performance

BBC football pundit Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Christian Eriksen after he helped Tottenham Hotspur to a nervy 3-1 victory against Leicester City yesterday afternoon.

The former Spurs player claimed that it was one of the worst performances he had witnessed from Spurs with the difference being the clinical finishing of the home players.

The Foxes had a number of chances to score, notably through Harvey Barnes and a missed penalty from Jamie Vardy which ended up costing them dearly.

Christian Eriksen provided a beautiful curling cross into the penalty area for Davinson Sanchez’s first goal for the club in the first half and the Dane got on the scoresheet himself with a vital second.

His strike from just outside the area beat his compatriot Kasper Schmeichel at his near post to stretch their advantage.

The Dane’s performance was enough to see him named in Garth Crooks’ Premier League team of the week.

Crooks told the BBC: “This was one of the worst performances I’ve seen from Spurs – but they could finish and Leicester couldn’t.

“If Harvey Barnes had a little composure in front of goal, he’d be dangerous. Conversely Christian Eriksen looked cultured and shone like a diamond in the rough.”
