With the speculation growing that Toby Alderweireld could be set to join Manchester United by Monday, some Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to social media to give their thoughts on the situation.

The Daily Mirror are reporting that a fee in the region of £60 million is set to be agreed between both clubs, which will allow the defender to move to Old Trafford.

As things stand, Spurs remain the only Premier League club to spend any money this summer. The report contains no hope that Anthony Martial will be on his way to us as part of an agreement.

If we sell Alderweireld and only manage to bring in someone like Jack Grealish, we will have had an absolute disaster of a transfer window.

Here’s a selection of reaction from our fellow fans.

  1. Spurs could do a deal with Toby Alderweireld as its seems he’d only leave for elsewhere for the money, and Spurs alterations to wage structure since May surely make agreement possible. Mind you, I can see why Toby would find playing for a club run by someone known for developing players and team spirit such an attractive proposition. ‘Eyes wide shut’ and all that.

  2. Can’t blame man utd for not selling us martial,i think he will leave, maybe abroad as they don’t want to strengthen a close rival.Spurs on the other hand do the opposite,we have helped man city out with a defensive problem last season, this seasons we help man utd with a midfield crisis, who are we selling to chelsea or liverpool next seasons.I don’t like man utd but i admire a team who say they will not sell to a rival and stick to it.This seasons is going to be a shambles,if we do sell toby, rose and dembele at the last minute we will struggle to get anyone in.Money talks with levy, if we keep toby until next season we lose 35m,but have 12 month to find a good replacement or we can help united to go for the league. We have gone back 10 years, when we would always sell our top players, usually to man utd,i thought being a regular top 4 team things would change but we look like fighting for 5th and 6th again.
