Spurs and Liverpool among a host of clubs said to be keen on World Cup winner

Tottenham Hotspur face a tough battle to sign VfB Stuttgart’s Benjamin Pavard with a number of other clubs interested.

According to Calciomercato, Spurs are likely to come up against Napoli, Bayern Munich and Liverpool if they want to land the services of the central defender.

Pavard impressed during France’s World Cup winning campaign in Russia which saw the 22-year-old play as a right-back, showing his versatility as a defender.

He was heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich during the summer but a move failed to materialise.

Pavard is reported to have a release clause in his deal which would allow him to move for €35m.

With doubts over the long-term future of Toby Alderweireld at Tottenham, the club are potentially considering reinforcements for the heart of their defence.

Alderweireld’s current contract expires next summer, but Spurs are able to extend by a further twelve months. However, this would trigger a release clause active only in the summer of 2019 if a bid of over £25.4million is received until 14 days before the end of the transfer window.
