BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will lose in Sunday’s North London derby to Arsenal at White Hart Lane.

He told BBC Sport Online: “The north London derby was a pivotal clash in the battle to be top dog between Tottenham and Arsenal last season, when the Gunners came back from 2-0 down to win 5-2 at Emirates Stadium in February.

“It is the same again this season and, although this time the game is at White Hart Lane and Spurs are on a fantastic run, I am going to throw the cat amongst the pigeons because again I am backing Arsenal to come out on top.

“The Gunners have had a couple of poor results in the FA Cup and Champions League but in fairness they have had some good results in the league and have won four and drawn one of their last five games.

“Arsene Wenger’s side are in fifth and you look above them and they are only two points behind a Chelsea side who have got problems of their own, and four points behind Spurs. Obviously that gap will be reduced if Arsenal win on Sunday.”

Lawro’s prediction: 1-2

  1. this is the best news I've heard all week! if all his predictions were right then QPR would be 7th in the table currently and Arsenal second! shows how clueless he is…

  2. Dear Mr. Lawenson,
must I point out that Spurs Practically played with 10 men that day. I think that you as a ex player knows what it means to play with a man down. Come Sunday as a Spurs fan I wish that it will be good game and should I point out to the officials to watch out for dives and hand waving that the Arsenal players love to do. To give them credit (Arsenal) I always thought that they always were a good team. Good luck Spurs, go and make us proud.

  3. And he also has Arsenal 2nd in his prediction league and us 6th (1 point above QPR). He genuinely appears to be blinkered towards the fact that Tottenham aren't where they are by chance, that Bale can tear even a decent defence a new one at present and that Arsenal's defence is far from what anyone would call decent.

  4. Just a suggestion to our manager Mr. AVB. If Stephen is on the subs bench and Adi is having a lousy game (as usual) try using him up front. A bit crazy I know, but you will never know. He has all the quilities for a strong center foward Young, well built, good in the air but just a bit slow that he will improve by time. Good luck.

  5. Thank god for that I only get concerned when Lawro backs Spurs to win!! So either a Spurs win or draw then! COYS!

  6. When did Lawro ever support Spurs. It is obvious he is not a Spurs supporter or his wife is irk by someone in Spurs shirt before………………………

    • Only by 2 goals, but point conceded.

MotD etc always seem quick to point out your defensive frailties. How come? Is it actually not that bad and just a case of the media trying to spin a crisis, or more that teams haven't been able to exploit the weaknesses?
