Spurs to battle Arsenal for Roma centre-back

Daily Mirror claim Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their interest in AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas.

According to the report, Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the 24-year-old due to their long-standing defensive injury problems.

Manuals joined Roma in 2014 for £10million from Olympiacos and the Greek international has been an ever-present so far this season for the Serie A outfit.

Toby Alderweireld has cemented his place alongside compatriot Jan Vertonghen as Tottenham’s first-choice central defensive pairing, while Kevin Wimmer has seem very little action since his summer transfer. Fazio is still kicking about, but many expect him to leave during the winter transfer window.

If Fazio is to leave N17, we will in all likeliness need a fourth centre-back to come in. Roma are apparently ready to offer Manolas a new deal to fend off any interest from North London.
