Spurs confirm arrival of 25-year-old South American

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of striker Carlos Vinicius on a season-long loan from Benfica.

The deal was initially revealed by the Portuguese outfit late on Thursday night, with the Brazilian to move to London for the 2020/21 campaign pending a medical test and the agreement of personal terms (Benfica).

Vinicius’ arrival means Spurs finally have another striker within the ranks to help ease the burden on Harry Kane, something they have been lacking since Fernando Llorente left the club last summer following the expiration of his contract.

Vinicius scored 18 goals in 32 top flight games for Benfica last season and offers a physical presence in attack, which is something which Spurs have struggled to replace when Kane has been sidelined (transfermarkt).

Mourinho was asked about the deal after his side beat Maccabi Haifa 7-2 last night to book their place in the Europa League group stages, but he chose to remain tight-lipped about the arrival.
