Spurs fans react to a frustrating afternoon at Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to the disappointing North London derby defeat to Arsenal.

It was a frustrating afternoon at the Emirates, my blood started to boil even before kick off when Moussa Sissoko was named in the starting line up ahead of Harry Winks. Granted, that Winks has just come back from injury, but a half fit Winks would have been more effective.

Even Mike Dean turned to the dark side. Mustafi’s header came after the referee had awarded a dubious free-kick for a foul on Sanchez while Alexandre Lacazette was just offside in the build-up to their second.

Here’s a selection of Tweets from your fellow Spurs fans with their thoughts on the match.

  1. Lacazette wasn’t offside mate. We’re clutching at straws blaming the ref.

Can’t be celebrating the Real Madrid win with a massive offside goal and talk about Mustafi being an inch offside.

Got played on off the park imo

  2. On hindsight, sissoko, Davies ,trippier shouldn’t start, should be winks, rose and aurier….dier should never be central defender ever…should have played foyd, too late to recall ccv…

  3. Arsenal were at the races. We weren’t.

Yes, our defence was shaky, but when key men like Kane, Alli and Eriksen are off their game,

we’ve no chance. Getting worried about Alli! Sometimes he looks like a world class player,

while other times he looks like he’s still playing at a lower league level. He sure doesn’t like

being pressed. But let’s put the Kane/Alli blip down to slight injuries recovery, and a lack of fitness,

but Eriksen still thought he was playing against Ireland! Those three diamonds were rough today.

Gawd we miss Alderweireld too when he ain’t playing.

Dier, replacing him, should have been the DM, alongside Winks. Sissoko and Dembele weren’t bad, but

it was the wrong game for them. Neither are DMs in the Dier/Wanyama mould.

I’ve been one of Sissoko’s biggest critics, but this season he’s not done badly when asked to play in various positions,

and he wasn’t one of our worst performers today. Dembele looked strong as usual, but I just wish he

had the vision to make the cutting pass forward. He often slows our progress down with his continual

holding of, and turning around with, the ball like some bleedin’ oil tanker.

It works beautifully in some games, but not in others ..and against a high pressing energised Arsenal

today we needed a midfielder with vision who could not just hold play up but try and energise our front three.

As for the positives, this was Arsenal busting a gut to beat us when we weren’t at our best, and they

did it with fortune in both goals, especially the first one. What an idiotic decision Dean made, which

cost us hugely. I felt for Llorente too when he created that chance for Son late on. It was easier for the Korean

to score, than miss it! If we could have matched their energy we would have got something from the game,

but we’re doing this too regularly at critical times (West Ham away late last season ..Liverpool the season before).

We were unlucky to lose to United and Chelsea, but today Arsenal seemed to want it much more than us,

    and that’s what hurts most!

    • spot on C B Sissoko was not the worst as most fans aim all the blame at him if we loose the whole 11 didnt look up for this it really was men v boys yesterday coys
