Tottenham have enquired about a loan deal for Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala according to French paper L’Equipe.

The 25-year-old has found himself out of favour at the Ethiad following the arrival of Pep Guardiola and is set to leave before the transfer closes on Wednesday. Tottenham, AC Milan and Napoli are all said to be keen on taking Mangala on loan with a view to a permanent move.

Mauricio Pochettino wants to add extra competition to his first-choice pairing of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, while many fans have been questioning the whereabouts of Kevin Wimmer who has yet to be named in a Spurs squad so far this season. Wimmer was a more than able deputy towards the end of last season when Vertonghen was ruled out with a knee injury.

Mangala joined City with a reputation of being one of the most talented central defenders in Europe, but it just hasn’t worked out for him.

  1. Not having heard any positive news concerning Kevin Wimmer in the last few weeks also makes me wonder what his status with Spurs is. At this stage I can only see that securing another CB would be a good addition in that Vertonghen no doubt will sustain another injury as he seems to be prone to this. Having Mangala on board will give us the strength in depth in this area of the pitch. Worse case scenario includes Carter-Vickers. IMO having C-V, Wimmer and Mangala gives us real defensive strength for Cup matches as well allowing rest days for Alderweireld and Vertonghen. I suppose we will just have to wait and see. I suspect all will be revealed on or around transfer deadline day. Fingers crossed for Wimmer. COYS!
