Spurs linked with Dortmund defender

Tottenham Hotspur are today being linked with a summer transfer move for Borussia Dortmund defender Matthias Ginter.

The report has come from reputatable German paper Bild who claim that the Bundesliga side are prepared to sell the central defender and have received two offers from the player from Tottenham and fellow German outfit Hoffenheim.

Ginter has become just another in a long line of defenders to be linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks and joins Swansea’s Alfie Mawson, Manchester United’s Chris Smalling and Harry Maguire who has recently left Hull for Leicester City.

With Kevin Wimmer’s time at Tottenham expected to be coming to an end, with Southampton said to be keen on the Austrian, it makes sense for Pochettino to bring in another defender. Wimmer’s recent Twitter post also can be interpreted as if he’s waiting for news on his future.

Back to Ginter, the report claims that Tottenham recently sent scouts to watch the player in action for Germany against Denmark with a bid now in place. His preference initially was to remain in Germany but is now said to be open to a move to the Premier League.

One thing he needs to consider is that he’s hardly likely to break up the partnership of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, so whoever comes in needs to know they will be a bit-part player.
