Spurs linked with move for £18m-rated midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a possible move for Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson.

According to Europe Mercato, Mauricio Pochettino have emerged as potential suitors for the player who is said to be valued at £18million by the Ligue 1 side.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have also been credited with an interest in Sanson (Le10 Sports), who scored nine goals in his domestic league last season and has a reputation for his creativity in the final third of the pitch.

Marseille currently find themselves in sixth place in the table which is well below the club’s expectations and have already crashed out of Europe after they embarrassingly finished bottom of their group.

Sanson has been at Marseille for the past two seasons after joining the club from Montpellier.

It remains to be seen whether Mauricio Pochettino will be handed any transfer funds for next month’s transfer window.

Speaking in November, the Spurs boss admitted that the club had made a mistake in the transfer market, but was said to be looking to prioritise the recruitment of English players.

A host of English players have been linked with a move over the past 12 months, but have missed out on the likes of Jack Grealish, Ross Barkley, Ryan Sessegnon and Wilfried Zaha.

Tottenham could only name a 22-man A list, three short of the allowed 25, for the group stages of the Champions League because Tottenham do not have enough ‘locally trained players’.

He told The Telegraph: “It’s in club hands,”

“It’s not in my hands only. We share the responsibility. If not, it looks like the bad things are the gaffer and the good thing we share all together. Sometimes, when something wrong happens, it’s Mauricio Pochettino, the coach.
