Spurs receive huge boost with the man pivotal to their transfer plans snubs move

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to have one of their busiest transfer windows in recent years with Mauricio Pochettino looking to take the club to the next level in his blueprint for the future.

One man who is key to Pochettino’s transfer plans is chief scout Steve Hitchen. The 42 year old is currently in his second spell at the club, having returned in 2017 and played a pivotal part in bringing Lucas Moura to the club from PSG in January of last year.

During his first tenure at Tottenham, Hitchen was credited in playing a big part in the signings of Luka Modric, Younes Kaboul and Benoit Assou-Ekotto before leaving for Liverpool where he recruited Luis Suarez from Ajax (Independent).

Hitchen has been the subject of interest from Marseille who were keen to bring him to France in the role of sporting director but has instead decided to remain in North London to continue his work alongside Pochettino (The Sun).

New Marseille manager Andre Villas-Boas, who has previously managed at Spurs wanted Hitchen to help him overhaul the squad.

Opinion

It’s a huge boost for Spurs to retain the services of Hitchin who has no doubt identified a number of targets for Mauricio Pochettino, to have lost him this early in the transfer window would have been a significant blow.
