Team News: Spurs face selection headache for Dortmund; three ruled out and one doubt

Tottenham Hotspur face a selection headache at left-back for tomorrow’s Champions League first leg against Borussia Dortmund.

Ben Davies is already sidelined with a groin injury he sustained in the Carabao Cup exit at Chelsea last month and Danny Rose was absent from this morning’s training session which has sparked concern that he could miss the match.

Rose was in inspired form during Tottenham’s 3-1 win against Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday and his absence will represent a huge blow if he fails to recover in time from a shin wound.

Mauricio Pochettino will now weigh up whether to play either Jan Vertonghen or Kyle Walker-Peters at left-back.

Vertonghen is naturally the more experienced of the two defenders, but his lack of pace could pose to be an issue when up against the likes of Jadon Sancho. In contract, Walker-Peters’ inexperience caused Spurs issues in the away fixture at Barcelona.

Elsewhere, it has been confirmed that Dele Alli (hamstring) and Harry Kane (ankle) once again miss out through injury as they continue their rehabilitation.

Eric Dier and Erik Lamela both returned to action and are available for selection.
