The ironic timing of a transfer rumour linking Spurs star with exit

Barcelona are today being linked with a £200million move for Tottenham Hotspur star striker Harry Kane.

According to The Daily Star, the Catalan giants have made Kane their top priority signing for next summer as a potential replacement for Luis Suarez, who has started to struggle with injuries.

Tottenham fans will be questioning the timing of this rumour considering Mauricio Pochettino’s side are due to take on Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Tuesday night.

The report claims that an impressive performance from Kane against Barcelona will only intensify their interest in the England captain.

The fixture will decide Tottenham’s fate in the Champions League as they must equal Inter Milan’s result against PSV Eindhoven in order to progress to the knockout stages. Failure to do so will see them drop into the Europa League.

Kane signed a new six-year contract with Tottenham June that sees him earn around £200,000-a-week including bonuses (Telegraph).

Whilst most of European footballers most prolific goalscorers are on the wrong side of 30, including Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo; Kane is just 25 and has his best years ahead of him.

A rumoured fee of a £200million would surely be rebuffed by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
