“The press hate him” – Club owner leaps to the defence of Spurs man

Jose Mourinho needs to be given more credit for the work he has done at Tottenham Hotspur, according to Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony.

The Posh chief claimed that some members of the media who he has close relationships with despise the Spurs head coach which is partly a reason as to why there are not many glowing headlines about the North Londoners.

After suffering a disappointing opening day defeat to Everton in the Premier League, Mourinho has guided his side to a Carabao Cup victory against Chelsea along with Europa League group stage qualification and significant victories against Southampton and Manchester United in the Premier League.

MacAnthony has tipped Tottenham to finish in the top four this season under the leadership of the former United and Chelsea boss.

Heading into the international break, Spurs found themselves in sixth place in the table with MacAnthony claiming they could be even higher if it were not for the harsh penalty decision against Newcastle United.

“I’ve always been a Mourinho fan, and I know the press hate him. There’s a few of my pals in the press who despise Mourinho,” he told the Hard Truth podcast.

“But Mourinho has shown what a job he did at United now, getting them second and winning trophies. People wanted to laugh at him leaving.

“Look at the way he’s got Spurs playing! I tipped Spurs as the dark horse.

“You take that penalty away last week and they’re second or third. I’m telling you now, he’s going to get them top four.”
