The reason why Eric Dier misses out today

It has been confirmed that Eric Dier misses out for Tottenham Hotspur in this afternoon’s match against Burnley through illness.

The Spurs midfielder has suffered somewhat of a turbulent season after missing a number of matches through both illness and after having his appendix removed in December following the 1-1 draw wth Barcelona in the Champions League.

Dier’s absence has allowed Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko to form an impressive partnership in the middle of the park in recent weeks.

The England international has only featured in fifteen of Tottenham’s twenty-six Premier League matches during the current campaign.

Football journalist Alasdair Gold confirmed Dier’s absence via his Twitter account prior to the match at Turf Moor.

Victory for Spurs could see them close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the table to just two points, with the Reds facing Manchester United tomorrow in what should be a hotly contested derby.
