The top five Tottenham signings who never realised their potential

This summer, Tottenham became the first Premier League club ever to fail to make a single new signing in the transfer window.

However, this may be a blessing in disguise, because, as football fans know, not every big money buy fulfils his true potentials.

We take a look at five Tottenham signings who never realised their full potential in a white shirt in recent years.

I can practically hear the gasps and the grumbles as I type out the Argentinian’s name. I love Lamela as much as the next guy, and I think he’s done a great job for Spurs in the face of some horrific injuries.

However, I would still argue that we are yet to see the best from Lamela. As a man who was once our record signing, coming over from Roma for a staggering £30m, Lamela has never been able to nail down a consistent starting spot in Poch’s team.

Although we have seen some amazing moments from the Argentine, I mean, that rabona goal, right? I still feel that Lamela hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential.

Scoring 25 goals in 149 appearances across five seasons, Lamela has been a dogged and tireless servant for the club since his arrival.

Here’s hoping that 2018/19 will be the season that we finally see his very best in a Spurs shirt.

So, what did you think? Do you agree with our list? Who did we miss out?
