Toby Alderweireld has taken to Instagram ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League trip to Manchester City.
The Belgian described the prospect of facing Pep Guardiola’s side as a ‘huge test’ whilst also sending a rallying cry for the players to set the standard high for the rest of the campaign.
Alderweireld partnered Davinson Sanchez at the heart of the Spurs defence for the opener against Aston Villa last weekend, with Mauricio Pochettino deciding to drop his compatriot and regular partner Jan Vertonghen.
City will no doubt pose a significant threat to the Tottenham goal tomorrow evening with Alderweireld and the rest of the players needing to be at the top of their game if they are to avoid a first defeat of the new season.
His long-term future in North London continues to be something of a concern with his current contract set to expire next summer, along with Serie A side Roma still said to be keen on the 30-year-old (La Republicca).
