Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed in a Tweet the news that Serge Aurier’s brother has died in the early hours of this morning,

The club did not disclose any details of the incident but instead expressed their sympathy and support for the right-back.

Reports from France earlier this morning revealed that his brother Christopher had been shot in Toulouse, France.

La Depeche claim that the 26-year-old was shot twice in the abdomen outside of a local night club and was confirmed dead after he was taken to the hospital.

The suspect is on the run and police have started an investigation into the matter.

Aurier has featured in 54 league games for Tottenham since his arrival in England from PSG and has been a regular in the side following Jose Mourinho’s arrival after initially finding himself struggling for game time under Mauricio Pochettino at the start of the campaign.

Tottenham are next in action on Wednesday when they make the trip to Newcastle United.
