Tottenham dared to Zlatan

Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing iconic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to a report in today’s Guardian.

The Swedish international is available on a free transfer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season and apparently Spurs made a ‘concrete offer’ for the 34-year-old, only to be told that he was only interested in joining Manchester United which would see him re-united with Jose Mourinho.

Even if Ibrahimovic was interested in joining us, how we would have managed to have met his wage demands without disrupting the harmony of the current squad is another question. He has apparently requested a sizeable wage packet of £220,000-a-week which United have agreed to.

Our highest earners are said to be on no more than £90,000-a-week which is a huge gulf between what Ibrahimovic was looking for.
