Tottenham departure confirmed

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Under-23 player Keanan Bennetts has left the club.

The winger has joined Bundesliga outfit Borussia Mönchengladbach for a fee said to be in the region of £2million.

Bennetts, 19, was born in Edgware to a German mother and a Nigerian father, and he represented Germany at U15 level before switching allegiance to England.

Fellow young English players Jadon Sancho and Ademola Lookman have both caught the eye this season for Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, respectively.

“Keanan can play a variety of attacking roles,” said sporting director Max Eberl. “He has played for Spurs in the Premier League 2 and in the UEFA Youth League this season, and we back him to make the step up to the Bundesliga. We’re delighted he has chosen to sign for Borussia.”

Bennetts told the German club’s official site: “Borussia is one of Germany’s biggest teams. I’m really looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere at BORUSSIA-PARK,”

Meanwhile, Tottenham are said to have offered a first professional contract to 17-year-old striker Reo Griffiths, who is attracting interest from Germany, with RB Leipzig said to be at the front of the queue.

Yesterday, Spurs U23 captain Joe Pritchard also announced that he had left the club.
