Tottenham explain Erik Lamela absence

There were a few eyebrows raised among Spurs fans when the team was announced at 2pm and Erik Lamela was nowhere to be seen in the starting line up or on the subs bench.

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed via Twitter that the Argentine will miss the match against Wolves at Wembley with a calf injury. It has not been confirmed as of yet how long he is expected to be sidelined for.

Lamela is arguably enjoying his best season in a Spurs shirt and is currently the club’s third most prolific player in front of goal during the current campaign.

Minutes per Premier League goal

Son Heung-min – 119

Harry Kane – 135

Erik Lamela – 141

Lamela was named as a substitute for Boxing Day’s 5-0 thrashing of Bournemouth, but did not make it off the bench.

The 26-year-old playmaker still has six goals under his belt so far this campaign, but has not found the back of the net since early November. Hopefully he will be fit and ready to face Cardiff on New Year’s Day.
