Michael Dawson - Header

Gomes (8) – Commanded his box well, a fine display of punching and catching crosses. Good save from Taylor at the end. Pulled up & felt his leg in added time after watching a Taylor free kick fly over his head and into row Z. Hopefully nothing serious.

Kaboul (8) – A very good effort given what we’ve seen from him previously at right back. Some very direct attacking play, esp. in the first half. Fine block in second half after Gomes had been caught off his line.

Dawson (8) – Committed and decisive most of the time. His distribution has come on leaps and bounds.

King (8) – Read the game like the genius he is and rarely looked flustered. One lovely dribble forward before half time.

Assou-Ekotto (7) – Just a job to him apparently and he had a good day at the office today but would like to see him use the ball better going forward. Wonder if he knows who we’re playing on Wednesday?

Bentley (6) – Worked hard and found some good positions. Too many touches too often though and too slow.

Modric (7) – Tricky on the ball as ever. Showed in flashes that he could be the one to provide the spark we needed to make the game safe but it never quite came off for him.

Huddlestone (8) – Excellent display all round. Fine shot for goal, careful with possession if a little too deliberate sometimes.

Bale (7) – Struggled to make an impact early on as Steinsson kept him at bay. Didn’t stop him having the best effort of the first half though (apart from Tom’s goal). In the last twenty minutes used the space well that appeared as Bolton pushed forward. Cracking volleyed cross that Pav nearly got on the end of.

Pavlyuchenko (6) – A patchy performance. Got on the end of several crosses but some inaccurate finishing.

Defoe (6) –
Largely quiet. Only one memorable effort on goal, just wide with a right foot shot in the second half.
