German news outlet Bild understands Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with the agent of Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels ahead of a possible transfer.
The report claims that the German international could leave Bayern during next month’s transfer window after becoming frustrated with reduced playing time under manager Niko Kovac.
Hummels, 30, now finds himself behind Niklas Sule and Jerome Boateng as the third central defensive option at the Bundesliga outfit.
Tottenham Hotspur still have uncertainty surrounding the future of one of their own central defenders, Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian’s future has been uncertain for a prolonged period and will be out of contract in the summer unless Spurs take up the option of extending his deal by a further twelve months.
Should Spurs activating the, it clause will also trigger a £25 million buyout option for potential suitors if a bid is received in the last two weeks of the summer transfer window.
If Alderweireld was to depart, Spurs would certainly be going some way to replace him with a player of the same caliber in Hummels.
