Erik Lamela was named in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up for Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to Fulham yesterday afternoon and it is fair to say that the winger had some of his more disappointing matches.
The Argentine has shown glimpses of his brilliance this season but certainly left his qualities at home when Spurs needed him most at Craven Cottage.
With Harry Kane and Heung-min Son both absent, supporters were looking to some of the other players to step up and be counted in the final third of the pitch to tighten our grip on a top four finish.
Some Spurs supporters were far from impressed with Lamela’s performance which eventually saw him hauled off in the 78th minute for Eric Dier while the score was still 1-1.
Lamela tried his fancy flicks but this wasn’t the game for it, in fact he didn’t even get his almost mandatory yellow card.
Hopefully he gets his act together for Thursday night’s trip to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi final second leg.
I can't remember Lamela ever playing well in a game in which he starts.
Doesn't look like it's about to change. ☹#COYS

Can’t see a reason for Lamela and Trippier to be at Spurs next season. Both been appalling so far. Sanchez, as he does against against every strong CF, losing every battle and struggling to atone. If only there were decent options to bring off the bench…

Lamela is being exposed when he starts games. A much stronger substitute #thfc

Can we all now agree that Trippier and Lamela aren’t good enough?

Today should not paper over the cracks, Lamela is absolute Dog shit, same with Trippier, Davies and Llorente. Should be nowhere near our squad; I would prefer to give our youngsters a chance. These guys have had plenty of chances, too many and failed every single time.

Erik Lamela epitomises our performance today! Can’t control the ball

I’ve defended him before but Lamela was next level shit today. Like Llorente, who could’ve been replaced with a tall drone scarecrow and nobody would’ve noticed, was somehow less bad.
