“Var screen must be broke at Tottenham” – Liverpool legend on Watford incident

Tottenham Hotspur can certainly have VAR to thank after two incidents involving the video assistance unfolded in North London yesterday afternoon.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side picked up exactly where they left off before the international break with another display which looked rocky in defence and devoid of creativity in attack.

Watford went ahead after six minutes when a long ball caught Danny Rose completely out of position and the rest of the defensive unit were also to blame when a ball into the penalty area was put beyond Gazzaniga by Doucouré.

The Hornets can feel aggrieved that they were not given the opportunity to double their lead when Jan Vertonghen made contact with Gerard Deulofeu in the penalty area.

VAR reviewed the decision and with many Spurs fans fearing that referee Chris Kavanagh would be instructed to point to the spot, instead he waved away the appeal.

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane took to Twitter to share his view on the incident and claimed that VAR must be broke and that Mauricio Pochettino’s side had escaped a blatant penalty.

Spurs can certainly count their lucky stars that the penalty was not awarded. The home side struggled to pull level when the score was at 1-0, if it had gone to 2-0 it could have been game over.
