Video: Another look at that superb piece of defending by Toby Alderweireld

Tottenham Hotspur may have had their joint best start to a Premier League season after eight matches with eighteen points, but it could have been very different.

Spurs took the lead after eight minutes of the match at Wembley courtesy of a close range Eric Dier strike, however serious praise must be given to Toby Alderweireld for his defensive masterclass.

The piece of play happened when Danny Rose was cooked for pace by Josh Murphy, who then lifted the ball over the outcoming Hugo Lloris and toward the gaping Spurs net.

Alderweireld tracked back and managed to get his toe to the ball to clear it to safety just microseconds before Junior Hoilett would have been on hand to equalise for the Premier League strugglers.

The Belgian defender was heavily linked with a move away from the club in the summer and with pieces of play like that, it’s absolutely mind boggling why Daniel Levy won’t pay him what he deserves.
