Video: Dier – We were better than Liverpool throughout the game

Eric Dier felt that it was a very unfortunate manner in which Tottenham Hotspur started their Champions League final against Liverpool after the opposition were awarded a controversial penalty.

Referee Damir Skomina had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and there was a quick referral to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) when Sadio Mane’s cross struck Moussa Sissoko’s outstretched arm after just 21 seconds of the match in Madrid.

The Spurs midfielder believes that his side were the better team throughout the match but were unable to make it count in the final third of the pitch.

Harry Kane came back into the side at the expense of Lucas Moura but was unable to have any influence on the game.

Spurs certainly had chances in the second half but were unable to take them and were punished close to the end when substitute Divock Origi netted Liverpool’s second to condemn Mauricio Pochettino’s side to defeat.

Opinion

While Spurs may have had the better chances to score, Liverpool certainly took theirs and it ended up costing us dearly.
