Jermain Defoe has revealed that he was desperate to re-join Tottenham Hotspur while he was at Portsmouth.

In an interview with Clare Balding on BT Sport, the striker told a story of his time at Pompey when former Arsenal defender Tony Adams was in charge.

Adams gave the players an ultimatum that if they did not want to be at the club, to come and see him in the morning.

Defoe took the manager up on the offer an engineered a move back to Spurs under Harry Redknapp, who had played a part in getting the England striker to leave Fratton Park.

  1. Defoe was / is generally hated at Portsmouth. He took the money, but returned ever decreasing heart and effort to the team. Then he faked illness to avoid being cup tied before he left. If you take the wages, you should put in the graft. Shameless, and no class.
