Video: Jenas suggests Spurs may have to follow Liverpool’s example to progress

Jermaine Jenas has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur may have to sell one or two of their key players in order to reinvest funds back into the team for further progression.

The former Spurs midfielder cited Liverpool’s example of selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £142 million (Guardian) which saw Jurgen Klopp use the funds to recruit the likes of Naby Keita, Allison and Virgil van Dijk and have become a better overall team, despite losing their star player.

In an interview with BT Sport after the FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace, Jenas revealed that he believes that it could be Christian Eriksen who could become the player who leaves Spurs for this to happen.

Eriksen’s current contract expires in 18 months and he has stalled on the offer of a new deal.
