Mauricio Pochettino met with the press after Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Wembley yesterday and had plenty to say.
Spurs looked exhausted and off the pace almost from the first whistle, second to everything throughout the game. Fans are used to seeing our players operating a high press against the opposition, but it was Liverpool who outperformed us at our own game.
Erik Lamela pulled one back for Spurs deep into stoppage time and Heung-min Son saw a late penalty claim harshly turned down by Michael Oliver after he was brought down by Mane but it was all too late.
Pochettino admitted that Liverpool were the better side, but did rue the fact that we should have had a penalty that could have made it 2-2.
Next up for Spurs is a tough Champions League opener at Inter Milan on Tuesday.
