Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson thinks that Tottenham Hotspur’s move to their new 62,062 capacity seater stadium could prove costly in their bid to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Spurs have already announced that they will hold two test events this month in order to gain a safety certificate before opening the ground for competitive football with a Premier League fixture against either Brighton or Crystal Palace.

The club are currently experiencing a horrific run of top-flight form which has seen Mauricio Pochettino’s side only managed to pick up a single point from their last four matches has allowed fourth-place Arsenal to close the gap on them, with just a point separating the North London rivals.

Merson has claimed that he would stay at Wembley for the remainder of the season rather than jeopardise a place in next season’s Champions League.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Both Merson and his bum chum Charlie Nicholas amongst others were saying the same thing about Wembley prior to Spurs taking up temporary residence. These pricks can’t take it if Spurs are doing well and can’t wait for the team to struggle or falter. Quite why the idiot Merson is invited on to any tv show is beyond me.
