Video: Sam Allardyce explains why Spurs were always going to struggle this year

Former Bolton Wanderers and Everton manager Sam Allardyce has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino has overachieved at Tottenham Hotspur.

Allardyce believes that the only way that Tottenham can overcome their current struggles is to buy new players to increase the level of competition amongst the squad.

Tottenham made it to the final of the Champions League last season following a European campaign filled with drama and suspense but were unable to beat Liverpool in Madrid.

Following the high of last season, Allardyce feels that the players are now experiencing a comedown and are finding it difficult to reach the same levels again.

Allardyce watched the game between Brighton and Spurs at the weekend and highlighted how easy it was for the Seagulls to beat Pochettino’s side.

Here’s what Allardyce had to say on this morning’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT.

Opinion

Next up for Tottenham is the visit of strugglers Watford a week on Saturday in North London. Never had such a ‘routine’ game for the club carried so much pressure.
