Video: Son arrives in the UAE as Spurs face a striker crisis

It’s probably the last sight that Tottenham Hotspur fans want to see at the moment as another forward is rendered unavailable for action.

Heung-min Son has arrived in the United Arab Emirates to take part in the Asian Cup for South Korea.

Should South Korea reach the final of the competition, he will miss at least five of Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures.

He will absent for the Premier League matches against Fulham, Watford and Newcastle and also miss the Carabao Cup semi final second leg against Chelsea. The trip to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup will also be a fixture that he sits out.

Son has already missed matches this season due to international duty when he helped his nation to success in the Asian Games that saw him gain exemption from national service.

With Harry Kane’s ankle injury now magnifying Son’s absence, should the South Korean’s loyalty be more aligned with his club side? Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge had dispensation from the Philippines football federation to miss the tournament so he could focus on the Bluebird’s Premier League commitments.
