Video: Liverpool legend discusses approach by former Tottenham chairman

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has recalled how he was approached by former Tottenham Hotspur chairman Alan Sugar.

Gerrard was being interviewed by Peter Crouch who he lined up against the Liverpool midfielder during a youth academy fixture at Spurs Lodge.

Prior to making his first team debut for the Anfield outfit, Crouch recalled how Gerrard had muscled a Spurs player off the ball on the edge of his own penalty area and ended up scoring a superb goal which went in off the crossbar.

Crouch remembers how Lord Sugar was in attendance to watch the fixture and walked off the pitch with the Liverpool, with Gerrard admitting that his club moved quickly after the match to offer him an improved contract.

As history goes, Gerrard ended up remaining at Liverpool and went on to become one of the all-time greats to pull on a red shirt; how different it could have been if Sugar was able to persuade him to move south.
