Tony Cascarino has claimed that the performance of Japhet Tanganga reminds him of legendary former team-mate Paul McGrath.
McGrath, who won 83 caps for the Republic of Ireland, is one of the country’s best ever footballers.
Tanganga was handed his Premier League debut in the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday evening and caught the eye.
The 20-year-old was quickly called upon to make a clearance off the line within the opening minutes of the match and showed maturity beyond his years.
Cascarino praised the academy product’s ability to read the game whilst also recognising the pace he possesses having been chosen ahead of Jan Vertonghen.
