When Jan Vertonghen will find out if he can face Ajax

Jan Vertonghen will meet with a neurologist today following his head injury against Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday night (Standard).

The Spurs defender clashed heads with teammate Toby Alderweireld and tried to carry on before coming off in the semi-final first leg defeat.

Referee, Antonio Lahoz had checked with the team doctor before allowing Vertonghen back on the pitch but soon had to be substituted, with Spurs saying he reported “no ill-effects” on Wednesday.

Vertonghen is unlikely to be risked in Saturday’s Premier League visit to Bournemouth and will take the guidance of the medical professional on whether he can face his former side on Wednesday night in Amsterdam.

Spurs fans will be hoping that Vertonghen will be ready to return to the side for the Europea tie with the club looking to overturn a 1-0 loss and book their place in the final which is likely to be against Barcelona following their 3-0 win against Liverpool last night.
