Willian’s former manager at Shakhtar Donetsk, Mircea Lucescu has asked the winger to quit Chelsea this summer.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the Brazilian, who has already admitted that talks over an extension with Chelsea have stopped as the Blues are unwilling to offer him a three-year contract.

The Lilywhites are reportedly ready to move early this summer and offer him a bumper pay rise to sign him up as a free agent.

The recruitment of Willian to North London would certainly improve Tottenham’s chances of a top four finish with the odds of a fifth successive season in the Champions League currently looking in doubt but the Brazilian’s presence would see fans looking to sign up with BetMGM to back Jose Mourinho’s side to leapfrog Chelsea in the table.

Football Insider have now reported that Newcastle United could try and hijack the deal following their takeover as their new owners are determined to sign up big names this summer.

Meanwhile, Juventus are also said to be interested in snapping up the 31-year-old (Daily Mail) and it is the Serie A champions that Lucescu believes should be the Chelsea’s star’s next destination.

When asked if he would recommend a switch to Juve for the winger he managed during his time in Ukraine, Lucescu told TuttoJuve.com (as relayed by Sport Witness): “Absolutely yes, I would be very happy if Willian had to choose Juventus. It would be exceptional to see him wearing that shirt.

“He has been at Chelsea for many years and perhaps it would be time to change. The London club fell in love with his performances when they faced us in the Champions League.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Free agents will be heavily sought after this summer due to the financial impact of the coronavirus shut down and so it certainly won’t be easy for us to land Willian. However, we do have an advantage over the likes of Juve and Newcastle owing to the relationship that the winger has with Mourinho. Hopefully, that will work to our advantage as I believe he will be an excellent addition to the squad.
