As Tottenham fan’s awaken after a wonderful win away at Wolves, full focus will be on the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 fixtures. The draw will take place tomorrow at 11am GMT. The North London side hope for further success amongst the Europe’s elites. Given that Spurs finished second in group B, the options will always be tough. Nevertheless, this article gives an overview of the possibilities that Tottenham could face in February.

FC Barcelona

The name that immediately springs to mind for most will be the Spanish giants. Tottenham will know a lot about the side following that Lionel Messi masterclass at Wembley last season. Despite this, it was Tottenham who went further in the competition, as the five time winners were beaten by Liverpool in the Semi Final in a fantastic game where many neutrals used a Ladbrokes promo code to back Jurgen Klopp’s side to victory.

As for this season, Barcelona are currently sitting at the top of La Liga, seemingly recovering from a poor start. However, they have been thriving in Europe. The group F winners finished unbeaten. However, it must be pointed out that a lot of the matches were tight encounters.

Man to watch: Lionel Messi

It goes without saying that the Argentine is the biggest threat of Barcelona. The record-breaking six time Ballon Dor winner is showing no signs of slowing down this season. It has been yet another outstanding season, as Messi has been involved in 23 goals and was instrumental in the sides breathtaking performance at home to Borussia Dortmund.

Yet another European giant. The most recent competitive encounter came at this stage two years ago, with Tottenham feeling somewhat underserved to be knocked out. But the two sides have already faced each other this season (albeit a friendly). Where Harry Kane notably scored from the halfway line to win the match.

It has been much more of a fight for Juventus domestically. As it stands, Juventus are sitting second in the league. But we have once again seen the Italians escape the group with efficiency. Juventus had to get past Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Lokomotiv Moscow but topped the group with apparent ease.

Man to watch: Paulo Dybala

The Argentine has seemingly salvaged his Juventus career thus far. Given that Dybala shares the same shirt as Cristiano Ronaldo, shows just how well he is doing. Paulo Dybala has scored seven goals in all competitions for Juventus, and is certainly the one that got away for Tottenham Hotspur after this summer’s speculation.

Paris Sant-Germain

It would certainly be a scary sight to face the French side. Playing against the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar would frighten any side. New addition Mauro Icardi is also having a great season, and is a player that Tottenham will know from his goal last season at the San Siro. PSG qualified from their group with ease. Performances against Real Madrid this season have certainly been seen as a statement from many side. Furthermore, we have once again seen domestic domination when looking at the French league.

However, it should be noted that PSG have recently had a shocking European knockout record. Manchester United remarkably knocked the side out at this stage last season, despite an in-experienced side. The fact that PSG were also defeated 6-1 by Barcelona at this stage three seasons ago will still hurt, as the French Champions haven’t reached the Quarter Finals since 2015.

Man to Watch: Kylian Mbappe

The golden-boy of World football. Kylian Mbappe is already a World Champion and has won trophies with AS Monaco and PSG. Last season, Kylian Mbappe was the closest player to match Lionel Messi’s goalscoring record. But he has carried on that form so far this season. The French forward has scored 13 goals already and is in breathtaking form.

RB Leipzig

The German side are certainly newcomers to this stage of the competition. However, they certainly pose a huge threat due to their electrifying young side. As it stands, RB Leipzig are sitting in first place of the Bundesliga, in what is an extremely tight top of the table. However, the side have also done well to finish top of a close group. Defeating the experienced sides of Lyon, Benfica and Zenit will certainly be seen as a statement to any of their potential opponents.

Man to watch: Timo Werner

The German striker is one of the most wanted forwards in the World. So far this season, Werner has been in spectacular form. In all competitions, Werner has scored 21 goals and has been instrumental towards the sides fantastic start to the season.

Valencia CF

The Spanish side have done remarkably well to top such a hard group. Valencia had shown their defensive capabilities in away wins at Chelsea and Valencia, which were instrumental in their run to topping group H. It is clear that it is a well-experienced side when it comes to the big European occasions, as they reached they were semi finalists in the Europa League last season.

However, teams will feel that they can get at Valenica. The side are currently sitting in eighth position in the Spanish league. In addition to this, the side were beaten 3-0 to Ajax at home to begin their European campaign. Last season, the side faced Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal, in the semi finals of the Europa League. In the end, they were defeated 7-3 on aggregate.

Man to watch: Rodrigo

The striker was certainly instrumental in Valencia’s qualification. Rodrigo had scored the all important goals against Chelsea and Valencia which saw them go through, in what was arguably the tightest group of the Champions League. However it is not just goals that the Spanish forward is known for. Rodrigo currently has ten assists so far this season.

As the Champions League draw nears, there are certainly some mouth-watering fixtures that could possibly await Tottenham Hotspur. But which fixture would fans want as the side look to go one further this season?
