Gallery: Five Tottenham transfer window signings that flopped

If Tottenham Hotspur are to complete the signings of Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessengnon, then this summer transfer window should be labelled as a success.

Spurs fans were greeted with two signings in one week with Tanguy Ndombele’s deal being finalised shortly after Jack Clarke in early July. This came after supporters waited over 500 days for the club to make a first-team signing.

Spurs have made some excellent signings in recent years, such as the arrivals of Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Dele Alli…the list goes on.

However, the transfer window hasn’t always been plain sailing for the Club. There have been a number of players enter the doors at White Hart Lane who have not lived up to their potential and failed to justify their price tag that the Club purchased them for.

We list five of these players (unranked) who can be considered to be some of the worst signings Spurs have made in the Premier League era.

Louis Saha

Many were surprised by the signing of Louis Saha in January 2012. A player who had arguably already past his prime, manager Harry Redknapp claimed that Saha was brought in to strengthen Spurs striking options following the departure of Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Saha was more suited to a backup striker role due to his age, but was played as the main striker instead because of Pavlyuchenko’s exit. He scored just 3 league goals in his short stint at White Hart Lane.

Spurs didn’t pay anything for Saha, which doesn’t make him the worst signing since the club had nothing to lose. Regardless, it was a pretty dire signing.
