Under intense pressure, from Vardy in the main, showed great composure to stay on his feet and in control.

Opinion

The bad news: we lost; we lost away again; and, having last year been one of the worst starters in the Prem, we gave away a lead yet again this year, this time to succumb, not merely to a draw but to ultimate defeat.

Some good news is that today’s victors are a side possibly destined for the top six, so no ignominy in that defeat. Even better news is that this performance promised a style of play that must the way forward for Tottenham.

In the first half, we played with high tempo, ferocious closing down, persistently progressive play and a determination to take hold of the game. Of course, this is hard to sustain, especially after a trip to Greece in midweek, and Spurs gradually let Leicester into the game to the extent that they began to dominate (even at the sad high point of a contentious VAR-disallowed ‘goal’ that might have made it 2-0 to Spurs).

An enjoyable game from two sides interested in playing football and willing to compete. Sadly, we came out on the wrong end of the result but we can feel there’s something to build on. I’m at sixes and sevens without to score this but have, in the main, rewarded the promise of that first half.
