Pundit claims England defender would be ‘really good signing’ for Spurs

Danny Mills has claimed that Wolves defender Conor Coady would be a ‘really good signing’ for Tottenham Hotspur.

Football Insider revealed on 2 August that Tottenham had opened preliminary talks to sign the England international. They also stated that new manager Nuno Espirito Santo was pushing hard for Spurs to land his former defender.

Coady has made 275 appearances in all competitions for Wolves. He was a key part of Nuno’s Championship-winning side in 2017/2018 but also a big component of Wolves establishing themselves as a Premier League side. Coady was even made club captain by Nuno just before the 2018/2019 season.

His performances for Wolves have earned him five England caps and he was part of Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for Euro 2020 but did not play a minute.

Tottenham have already made movements in this position. The club have now announced their third capture of the summer, signing centre-back Christian Romero from Atalanta for £47m.

Speaking before Romero was announced, Mills said (Football Insider): “Tottenham still need a centre-half or two.

“They’re still light in that area, you would say. Nuno knows him from Wolves and Coady has done incredibly well at Wolves. He’d be a really good signing, I think.”

Coady is an interesting one. It’s a signing that would make new manager Nuno very happy with his personal connection to the defender.

He has faults, but he knows the league and he certainly isn’t a bad defender. Romero is the star but there is a general feeling is that one more centre-back needed.
