Gallery: The top five French stars who have played for Spurs

Tottenham does not necessarily have a large connection to French football. Just 13 Frenchmen have played for the club.

But with Tottenham recently capturing the signature of Tanguy Ndombele (BBC), the figure of 13 can now be increased to 14, with Ndombele being the 14th Frenchman to put on a Spurs shirt.

Spurs signed the now-former Lyon midfielder for a club record initial fee of £53.8m (BBC). The transfer became the Club’s second of the season following the announcement of Jack Clarke earlier on the same day.

Spurs had waited over 500 days for any transfer activity, and they finally got two in one day.

With the announcement of Ndombele joining Spurs, we list our top 5 best French players to play for the club, with the exception of Ndombele who obviously is yet to play a game.

5. Moussa Sissoko

When he first arrived at Tottenham, the doubters and the haters were out in force. He had a lot to prove upon joining such a big club – a step up from his days at Newcastle.

The fact was, he didn’t prove himself straight away. It took him quite a long time.

He was often scapegoated for poor results. He was being mocked by his own fans. But who would have thought in the 2018/19 season he would become an absolute necessity to the Tottenham squad?

The days of mockery and humiliation ended as Sissoko went on to have his best season to date.

He made 49 appearances for the season for both club and country and completely bossed the midfield wherever he went.

He became somewhat of a cult hero. From being a mockery, to becoming a fan favourite within a season, Moussa Sissoko is one of the feel-good stories at Tottenham Hotspur.

Whilst he most likely won’t be Tottenham’s greatest ever player, he certainly deserves a spot on this list. And with the addition of Tanguy Ndombele to play alongside him, we may not have seen the best of Sissoko just yet.
