The sacking of Inter Milan manager Marcello Lippi ultimately ruined Robbie Keane’s dream move to Italy. After just 14 appearances in all competitions, Keane was loaned to Leeds in December 2000 after new manager Marco Tardelli deemed Keane as a surplus to requirements.

He impressed from the get-go at his new club. Nine goals in 14 games at the beginning of the season was enough to persuade manager David O’Leary to permanently sign Keane from Inter.

Unfortunately for Keane, he sold due to the club's financial strains and joined Spurs in 2002.
