Will Tottenham Reach Another Champions League Final Over The Next Five Years?

Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed an excellent season last campaign, and while their form may have dropped off towards the end in the league, they did have an unforgettable journey to the final of the Champions League. The atmosphere on the nights against Manchester City and then Ajax was unrivalled, but unfortunately, they fell just short with their defeat against Liverpool in the final.

However, could they get back there one day? The jury could still be out with most, but punters looking for maximum profit on this possibility can use these new betting customer offers you won’t want to miss on all upcoming Spurs fixtures. But, what chances do they have on reaching the final over the coming seasons?

Current Campaign

This is a very low period in the era of Mauricio Pochettino, and the early season form has maintained that pressure continues to be on the Argentine. The club suffered their heaviest ever home defeat on just their third night of European action in their new stadium at the hands of Bayern Munich, before slumping to another defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion. Their opening day draw against Olympiacos also highlighted fatal shortcomings for Spurs as they threw away a two-goal lead to draw in Greece.

Of course, there remains hope that they can match last season’s accomplishment, but at present, it looks almost impossible. The Champions League this season is as open as it has been for years and whether Spurs can match Manchester City, Liverpool, Barcelona and Munich over the next nine months looks increasingly unlikely.

Young Players

Spurs fans have been saying for seasons that the squad is young, but it really is. Harry Kane, Dele Ali and Tanguy Ndombele haven’t reached their peak age yet, and are certainly going to become more complete footballers over the coming seasons. Meanwhile, the club moved efficiently in the summer to bring in Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso, who will both likely prove to be excellent additions in the long-term.

The best teams around Europe widely scouted both players, and Tottenham did exceptionally well to encourage both to join the project. As well as these two, there are also players like Oliver Skipp, J’Neil Bennett and Troy Parrott all progressing well, and could soon be about to show why they should be given a chance with the first team. All have performed excellently for the younger England sides, especially Bennett. So there is reason for optimism.

European Changes

The current landscape doesn’t look too promising for Spurs, but over the coming years, there will be huge changes that could affect the current leading sides. Lionel Messi is the wrong side of 30 and will someday leave Barcelona, while that’s also the same with Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus. Those two departures will weaken both of their chances. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are both likely to be tempted by new challengers, with the Liverpool boss already stating his indication to manage the German national side.

When these changes occur, then there will be a chance for a new side to take the competition by storm, and Spurs will have to be in the best possible position to ensure that they will be that side.
