Arsenal legend urges Spurs to splash the cash

Ian Wright says Tottenham must spend big this summer if we are to compete for the Premier League title once more next season.

For the previous two seasons Mauricio Pochettino’s side were the closest challengers to eventual champions Chelsea and Leicester but could not match the spending of the likes of City, Manchester United or Liverpool.

Daniel Levy has always been one for shrewd investments and has been hesitant to bring in a bulk of players for big fees in recent years.

However having fallen well back in the Premier League title race this season, Arsenal legend Wright thinks it’s tim to start spending.

“They need to spend,” the former Arsenal and England striker told Sky Sports. “But we saw Everton spend big, so you need to spend right too. That is going to be a massive thing; getting the right player”.

Wright added: “He has to come to England and they have to stave off City, Chelsea and Man Utd to get him, then he has to settle and hit the ground running because that is what Spurs and everybody behind City have to do now.

He went on to say: “Because of the way City have run away with it, Spurs and other teams have to hit the ground running to catch them. Players have to be ready to go as soon as they go into the team and that is going to cost a lot of money.”
